Join us from home for a virtual Codenames tournament hosted by Diversions Puzzles & Games! Sign-ups and a registration fee are required to participate. (Registration info below)
- Up to sixteen teams will compete to prove themselves the Codenames champions! Each team must have exactly two players and be available to play every Thursday night for up to eight weeks. Tournament matches will be conducted once a week on Thursday evenings for the duration of the tournament. Teams must register and pay before Sunday, January 24. Round 1 matches begin Thursday, January 28. The full duration of the tournament will go into March for teams who progress towards the finals.
- The registration fee is $10.00 per team and must be paid prior to Week 1 of the tournament. 100% of the registration fees will be converted into Diversions gift cards for prizes for the top two teams (redeemable at either store). The amount will vary based on the number of participating teams. The maximum prize with full participation is $50 per player on the winning team and $30 per player for the second-place team.
**HOW IT WORKS**
- This tournament will be run as a double-elimination bracket tournament. It will take two losses to be eliminated from the tournament. Tournament rounds will be held every Thursday evening and you will be paired against a new team each week. Matches must be played and reported back to Diversions by the following Sunday night. Every Monday we will email the updated results of the tournament and send the new matches for the week. Each pairing will receive a unique link to your game for that week. Please confirm and coordinate with your opponent for each round of play and check your email regularly with updates for the tournament.
- Each weekly match will be played as a best two out of three games. The first team to win two games on the night of your match is the winner for the match that week. Teams must switch spymasters for game #2 of your match. If your match goes to game #3 you may choose who will play as spymaster. After your match is complete, the winning team must report themselves as the winner of the match using a provided link.
- Games will be played on https://codenames.game, a free website to play Codenames. Each individual will need to access their game from a separate device, even if you live together, since the spymaster for each team will have a different screen than their teammate. We highly recommend using a video chat service to connect with your opposing team and teammates, if you do not live together.
We will host a one-time virtual game night open to all participants on Tuesday, January 26 at 7:00pm to kick off the tournament and so all players can learn the interface of the website. More info TBA.
**HOW TO PARTICIPATE**
- Register your team at this link: https://forms.gle/tyL4dALHbjwLXt6XA. By registering for the tournament, you agree to your email address being shared with your weekly opponent (and vice versa) for coordination of your match time that week.
- After your registration has been accepted you will be contacted to pay your registration fee of $10.00. Payment is required to finalize your registration. If you must forfeit from the tournament, please notify Diversions via email so we may update the matches accordingly. Teams who forfeit during the course of tournament will not receive a refund for their entry.
