The thing about the board game hobby is that there are too many games and not enough time. Even games that are super popular and have been out for a while will often get pushed to the back-burner for the newest release, but we’re here to help! Our Learn & Play series is designed so those new to our Games of the Month can learn a new game, and experienced players can jump in after the teach to play a few rounds. Once you have a few plays under your belt, stop in for a tournament of the featured game. Here’s the schedule for July’s Games of the Month:

Portsmouth: Sheriff of Nottingham

In Sheriff of Nottingham, players act as merchants who are trying to get their goods through the gate to sell into the city. Players store their goods in their burlap sack and declare which goods they are bringing through. Will you pack honest goods for sale or will you attempt to sneak contraband through the gates and make some extra money? Turn by turn, one player will act as the Sheriff and decide whether to let your goods pass through or confiscate them! Can you convince (or bribe) the sheriff to allow you through without issue? Come play Sheriff of Nottingham and find out! Learn & Play: Sheriff of Nottingham is July 9 at 5:30 pm and the Sheriff of Nottingham Tournament is July 23 at 5:30 pm.

South Portland: Smash Up!

This month we’ll be finding answers to some of the hardest questions ever asked: Ninjas or Pirates? Robots or Aliens? Dinosaurs or Wizards? Zombies or Tricksters? Combine any 2 of the 8 factions available to create a deck of mayhem and lay waste to your opponents. Fight across multiple landscapes, find victory, and prove that your Zombie Dinosaurs beat Robot Pirates or Ninja Wizards or whatever other crazy combination comes a knockin’. Learn & Play: Smash Up! is July 16 at 2:00 pm and Smash Up! Tournament is July 23 at 4:00 pm.
