Summer = vacation! Time to relax and hit the beach, mountains, camp, lake, etc. Did you know that Diversions came about after a series of family game nights at our annual lake vacation? We now have a gaming store in Maine and NH!  Lots of games travel well but we picked some of our favorites below:

TRAVEL QWIRKLE

Players: 2-4

Time: 30 minutes

Qwirkle is a classic family game for 2-4 people. Play as many tiles in a row as you can, but every tile must be the same color and a different shape, or the same shape and a different color. The more tiles you touch, the more points you’ll score. That’s it! The Travel Edition has smaller tiles and is super easy to throw in your beach bag or carry-on for on-the-go fun.

A DECK OF CARDS

Players: 1+

Time: Varies

You can play, like, a million games with a deck of cards. You can play solo or with a big group. Trick-taking, bluffing, social, skill. Solitaire, Bridge, Cribbage, Gin Rummy, Hearts, Spades, Pitch, Poker, Whist, Werewolf, Hearts & Skulls, King, Mao, Euchre, Speed, Spoons, Pinochle, War, Canasta, Go Fish, Hand and Foot, Cheat, Crazy Eights, Slap Jack, Tripoley, Rivers…okay, you get the picture. This has to be the best bang for your buck, hands down. Less than $5, tiny, and can be played anytime, anywhere.

A FAKE ARTIST GOES TO NEW YORK

Players: 5-10

Time: 15 minutes

Everyone is drawing one picture together, but one of you doesn’t know what you’re drawing! There is a fake artist hiding among the real artists. Can you find out who it is? About the size of a deck of cards, this drawing party game is an easy way to bring some fun on your trip. Try out the other tiny games from Oink for more portable fun!

HIVE

Players: 2

Time: 15 minutes

This one is perfect for anywhere you might find a breeze -no cards, just heavy-duty tiles that won’t blow away, plus there’s a pocket edition if you need some extra room in your suitcase! In this two-player game, you’ll use your insect tiles to surround your opponent’s Queen Bee before they surround yours. Simple rules make this fast to pick up, and the abstract strategy makes it tough to put down!
